BELAIR2015

The BELAIR2015 campaign was the 2nd BELAIR campaign with in-situ, UAV, APEX and satellite data acquisition at all three BELAIR sites.

BELAIR2015 data acquisition

The BELAIR2015 campaign was the 2nd BELAIR campaign with in-situ, UAV, APEX and satellite data acquisition at all three BELAIR sites.

In-situ data, UAV, APEX and satellite images were acquired by the HESBANIA, LITORA and SONIA teams in June-July 2015.

Before the BELAIR2015 campaign the radiometric and spectral performance of the field spectroradiometers operated by VITO (last calibration report 27/3/2015), UCL and VUB were verified in the dark room of VITO on 6 May 2015.  A verification report including recommendations was provided to each operator. After the BELAIR auxiliary training at VITO on 6 May 2015, a measurement protocol developed by VITO was provided to the participating ground teams.

The hyperspectal APEX sensor was calibrated (spectral, radiometric and geometric) at the Calibration Home Base (CHB) hosted by DLR in April 2015.

BELAIR2015 data policy

Satellite data purchased by BELSPO (Pléiades, ASTER, DMC, ...) remain property of BELSPO as stipulated in the contract letters SR/67/331a, b, c, d, e and f (BELAIR HESBANIA), SR/67/332a, b and c (BELAIR LITORA) and SR/03/333 (BELAIR SONIA)

Airborne APEX & UAV (RGB, Multispectral and/or Red-edge) imagery acquired over HESBANIA, LITORA and SONIA and in-situ data are released stepwise, depending on user type:

·All Remote Sensing (RS) data immediately and free-of-charge available to all participating Users. In-situ field data available upon request to the owner of the data, i.e. to the lab which actually acquired the field data

·Two years after delivery of the APEX data to the PI, all BELAIR data available to the entire international Scientific Community. The APEX data was delivered to the PI in November-December 2015.

Sites

As in the BELAIR 2013 campaign, the main aim of the 2015 campaign was to gather remote sensing data to improve the monitoring, steering  and managing of capital intensive perennial fruit orchards.

The BELAIR 2015 - LITORA campaign includes three research sites: Zeebrugge, Ijzermonding and Zwin & Lage Moere van Meetkerke.

The overall goal of the research activities linked to the BELAIR 2015 campaign is the spatiotemporal estimation and monitoring of water and energy fluxes in urban areas.
